AsiaTown in the News

People’s Streets is painting the crosswalks and curb extensions along Payne Avenue and is striping temporary bike lanes on the Payne Avenue bridge over I-90.  The vibrant design will not only add a sense of cultural placemaking to the street, but also better protect pedestrians and cyclists by calming traffic and elevating their visibility.  This will be the first project of its kind in the City of Cleveland.

The Lunar New Year (also known as the Spring Festival, Tet, or Seollal) begins this year on February 1. Families begin preparing weeks before, and celebrations last for two weeks until the Lantern Festival. According to the zodiac calendar, this year will begin the Year of the Water Tiger. Celebrations and traditions vary across geography and religion, but here are a few ways to celebrate in AsiaTown!

Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, celebrating the diversity, culture, heritage, and history of Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander communities in the United States. Here are five ways to celebrate this month!

#StopAsianHate

On Sunday, March 28, 2021, nearly 1,000 people showed up to AsiaTown to stand in solidarity with our AAPI residents and community in response to the tragedy in Atlanta, targeting women in Asian-owned spas, and in response to the rising incidents of anti-Asian hate incidents and harassment, which have continued since March.

AsiaTown is joining the national movement to support small businesses, but not just on Small Business Saturday. Do the Shop Small Crawl year-round to support AsiaTown small businesses.

We are launching Imagine AsiaTown, a process to shape a collective strategic vision for our neighborhood’s future that is centered on the unique gifts each person brings to help turn that vision into reality. We invite you – as community members who live, work, shop, and visit AsiaTown – to imagine and contribute to this future.

We're offering free meals to those in need of food and encouragement while supporting AsiaTown small businesses. Check back here for updates about meal distributions and how to help.

Open in AsiaTown

All AsiaTown restaurants are now open for takeout or delivery, and many are open for dining! Wondering what to order? We have you covered with some meal recommendations! We're keeping a running list of restaurants that are open during the pandemic.
